Reflections

It was really fun to work on LAC1201 Project. At first, I found it difficult to write Chinese characters and form new sentences. This project has given me a chance to improve my skills in Chinese language. Moreover, I learned to appreciate team effort and strengthen friendship with my group mates. It was fun to interact with the native speaker and understand his language. We worked as a group to come up with questions that were not too complex. During the shooting of scenes one day, there was raining and the background noise was very loud. We had to wait for the rain to stop but it didn’t seem to stop. Then, we did the shooting indoors. We had to re-shoot some scenes a few times at different angles. This project has really helped me to build my confidence in speaking and writing Chinese. I am very contended in studying this language and thank all my group mates for all their effort. This project is a memorable and fun-filling experience for me.

"This project was like a breath of fresh air! Despite the many difficulties I faced with acting and pronounciation, Zhong Xiang and my group members inspired me to give my best. Through this project I learnt the importance of communication within the group and the importance of sacrifice for the group. The project was also a creative way for us to practise our oral skills while interacting with new friends and learning firsthand from a native speaker of the Chinese language. I am grateful for my group members who complement each other, who are always encouraging, understanding and positive, as well as Zhong Xiang who selflessly helped us. They definitely made the experience easier in the face of setbacks, and sweeter."

"The project was very fun to do but there were a lot of challenges that we had to overcome. With pressing deadlines, it was really hard to find time to meet up. Although some of us cannot attend some of the meetings, we would always make sure that we kept each other informed. I really love how my group members take initiatives to remind each other of the deadlines and volunteer to do tasks. This project was a very unique way to meet new people and learn the Chinese language at the same time."

Humans learn best from experience and LAC1201 gave me a chance not only to learn what was taught but also to experience. Being given daily conversational words and some interesting facts about Chinese Language, this module was a truly enriching yet unforgettable journey, and the interview project is the best part of it which let us to experience talking in Chinese to a native speaker.
We spent roughly 3 weeks preparing this project by sneaking out of our hectic schedules to go to the meetings and video shootings. The obstacles were always there: the unfriendly weather, the long-awaited ISBs and, of course, our exams and CAs. In addition, none of us possesses advanced video editing skill. However, we managed to get through all these things as a team. We did the backbone of the project – which is the topic, script, interview questions and the group report – together as a group while we tried our best to have a fair share of workload in the making of the videos. My responsibility was to do a basic video editing, provide a camera and shoot the scenes and set up a blog and upload the content. Through this project, I learnt how to type Chinese characters and pinyin, how important the tones are in Chinese Language and how to set up a neat yet catchy blog. Our interviewee was a great help since he tried his best to answer our questions about the tones and the new words.
At the end, I am content because this project provided me the chance to actually talk in Chinese with a native speaker. Overall, this project has taught me that Chinese is hard but it is not impossible to be learnt. With sufficient time and effort and strong will, I managed to made most of it and even become more excited to learn more about it.

"All I can say after doing the project is that: “It is really an enjoyable time with unforgettable memory”. At the beginning, having a group which only has one boy (which is me ^^) and 4 girls really made me feel nervous and wonder whether we could cooperate well or not. However, throughout the process of making the video and doing the report, we have always worked together and solve all problems together. The first job that I take on is to find a suitable candidate for the interviewee, that worked out fine with the help of my friend- Dai ZhongXiang (He is really a great friend to help me with this video, if you want to know more just watch the video ^^) . Later on, I took on a role in the movie as ZhongXiang’s friend, the shooting time was really enjoyable and memorable, there were a lot of problems but we also have a lot of fun, thanks to the effort that we put in together, everything went quite smoothly. After that is the hard part: editing and doing the blog, Teresa, Suriani and I took on editing job, while others do the blog and presentations. It took me quite a lot of time to really learn how to edit movies, sounds and add subtitles, it’s really great that I am not alone in this, all three of us worked hard to produce the best result- the video is not only the project that we are required to do but also the good memories that we create during that time. Even though, at the end, everyone seems to be in a rush but I am glad that all of us still be able to sit together and solve the problems as a team. Big thanks to ZhongXiang- my good friend, to my teammates who worked with me the whole time and lastly to our dear Chinese teacher who has helped us a lot in the project. "
